Hi DKAZ- In case of extended power failure, the freezer will keep food frozen for 24 hours provided warm air is not admitted. Foods will help to stabilize the temperature. This is because the items absorb the cold, and actually work to help maintain a steady temperature. If there is a power outage, we recommend the following: Keep door closed. Place bags of regular ice in the freezer to help keep foods frozen. Place ice in a container in the fresh food section to try to keep fresh food items cooler. If it is anticipated that power will be out for a length of time, you can try to keep food frozen or cool in a cooler using either bags of ice or with dry ice* (*WARNING: HANDLING OF DRY ICE CAN CAUSE FREEZING BURNS ON HANDS. Gloves or other protection is recommended. Dry ice is most commonly found in the yellow pages under "Carbon Dioxide".) Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It stands to reason that keeping water frozen in the freezer would help to extend its ability to maintain cold in the event of a power outage. I keep two or three gallon jugs of water in mine all the time.
