Hi Jsd - Thanks for considering GE Model JES2051SNSS! We are happy to address your concern. We comply with federal and state chemical labeling laws. One such law is California Proposition 65, enacted by California in 1986 (Prop 65). This state law requires companies to provide a warning for thousands of consumer products, foods, prescription drugs, alcoholic beverages, enclosed parking facilities, amusement parks, furniture, and other everyday items. For more than a decade, we have complied with the Prop 65 requirements by providing a warning in the owner's manual. California recently updated its Prop 65 regulations to require, for products produced on or after August 30, 2018, new on-product warning labels (instead of owner's manual warnings). GE Appliances and other appliance manufacturers will use on-product warning labels to comply with this state law. Starting in early August 2018, we began adding new labels to our products to comply with the new Prop 65 requirements. The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning.
