“Should I get a surge protector? The last GE fridge I had was damaged beyond repair by a power surge. It was only 4 years old. Electrician and repairman both said it was a power surge. Since there are 2 circuit boards shouldn’t they be protected?”

My refrigerator never restarted and was damaged by the surge.

The compressor is sensitive to temperature and current overloads, and will shut itself down with a surge. It will also restart itself. A surge protector will override this system, and if there is a power surge, your refrigerator may not restart. This could cause food spoilage.
