Hi, Peter

according to the manual if the water is not connected, just ensure that the ice-maker is turned to the OFF position.
This is what page 14 of the manual states:

"If the refrigerator is operated before the water connection is 
made to the icemaker, set the power switch in the OFF position."

&

"When the refrigerator has been connected to the water
supply, set the power switch to the ON position."
