For your peace of mind use a 15 foot or shorter 12/3 gauge extension cord. The most important thing is the three-prong extension chord as this grounds the unit and protects one from electrical shock. A surge protector is not necessary because the ground wire and 20 amp breaker will protect against electrical shock.
