Recommend every 3-months or 300 gallons filtered, whichever comes first. You can order (and is highly recommended) from the manufacturer as 3rd party/aftermarket are not guaranteed and voids your warranty.

Hi HeatherMac- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! For best filtration results, filter cartridge MWF/MWFP should be replaced every six months or 300 gallons. There is a replacement indicator light for the water filter on the interior control panel. The filter cartridge should be replaced when the replacement indicator light turns red or if the flow of water to the dispenser or icemaker decreases.
