Hi freedafreeport - Thanks for considering GE! Assuming an eight foot ceiling, ADHB35LZ is best for 600 sq. ft. and ADEW30LY is best for 500 sq. ft. If your ceiling is 10 add 25% to the room square footage. We suggest viewing the following link: DEHUMIDIFIER - SIZING: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=34664 - Also, dehumidifiers have an automatic humidistat that can be adjusted to suit your individual comfort level. Set the control to the desired humidity level (ex. 45%), and the unit will cycle off when the set humidity level is reached. It will cycle back on when it detects humidity level has increased to 5% greater than the set level. We'd love to have you in the family. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My basement is probably 600 sq ft and this unit does what it’s supposed to do. The machine does shut off when the humidity level is reached and it turns back on by itself. It’s pretty quiet shutting off and turning on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Square footage coverage for a dehumidifier is a function of the rate of infiltration of the moisture in the air. If you have a large relatively air tight basement with good internal air circulation and the walls have been sealed then you could used a relatively small dehumidifier to keep the air dry. If that same basement is unfinished and the walls are not sealed, that same dehumidifier may work but it may run constantly and need to discharge to a drain or you will be going downstairs every 6 hours to empty the reservoir.
