When frost builds up on the evaporator coils, the compressor will cycle off and the fan will continue to run until the frost disappears. When the coil is defrosted, the compressor or fan will automatically restart and dehumidifying will resume. When running in defrost or fan mode, the compressor shuts off, the fan will continue to run and the room air will accelerate the defrosting process. When the unit is in defrost mode, it will actually blow cold air into the room. There is a thermostat that triggers the defrost. which goes off based on time and temperature. If this unit is not reaching the proper humidity level, please see the following link for next steps you can take: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=35790. If you have any additional questions in the future, please let us know. We are always happy to help! Joyce@GEA
