“Is there only one speed as far as the wash cycle goes? I do not feel as though the actual wash cycle is very aggressive, for lack of a better word. I don't feel as if my towels get as clean as they did in my old washer.”

I get what you’re saying and I agree. The new age/technology washing machines are more gentle!
