I do not think you can open the top without pause as the lid locks while it is in cycle.

We truly appreciate you choosing this top load washer for your home and are happy to offer you some guidance in this. The lid will automatically lock when the washer is either load-sensing before and during fill, or when it is spinning above 50 RPM. You will always have to press pause to unlock the lid if it is locked during these times. If you need to open the washer during a cycle at a time when the lid is not locked to add an item, we would still always recommend that you first pause the cycle to prevent any damages and allow the washer to properly sense the cycle. When you do pause a cycle, the start indicator light will blink and then you can simply press start again to continue the cycle where it left off. We hope that this helps to clarify! -Eliza@GEA
