The posted clearance in the installation instructions s is 0", so if you vent out the bottom or side, the can fit right up against the wall. If it is vented out the back, the space needed would be just whatever clearance is needed for the vent. The required duct width is 4" so it would need at least 4" of space. Jill@GEAppliances
