The 30-1/2" depth is for the dryer only. This model is approved for 0" clearance in the rear of the unit. We strongly encourage you to view more on this in the Installation Guide under the 'Features' tab. This dryer is sure to be a great asset to your laundry routine! -Kacie@GEAppliances
