Hi there, thank you for taking the time to reach out. This icemaker uses your refrigerator's water supply, which may or may not have an internal filter. If your refrigerator does not have a filter, we recommend some kind of filtration system as unfiltered sand or particles can interfere with the ice maker's operation. More information is available on page 18 of the manual, linked here: https://files.bbystatic.com/VNAF97j448v%2BWxQeajDX0A%3D%3D/1b2c43b8-cb96-4db8-ae12-b8524fa1f28c.pdf - We hope this helps, and please feel free to let us know if there are any ways we can assist you in the future. -Elliot@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My water supply line is directly connected to the icemaker. I don't use a filter. However, I believe a filter can be installed between the water supply line and the connection to the refrigerator's icemaker. To be certain, I would refer this question to a GE customer representative.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Don’t know, I have a full home water filter system so replacing a filter is not needed.
