Hi Patti- Thanks for choosing GE! We are sorry to hear this, as it is not something we would expect to occur. The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. Service is required. If you would like to schedule a service appointment, please contact GE Appliance Service at 1-800-432-2737 or schedule a service appointment online: http://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm?ICID=GEARsupportflyout-service - Thanks for reaching out to us!
