You can control this directly from your phone or laptop without having to connect a cable from your tv to a device. It is controlled directly by your phone or laptop. It doesn't have any pre-installed apps, but it works with a good majority of video based apps on your phone, like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.you can use google chrome to cast as well, so if you have a computer you can cast using an extension of google chrome
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the exact same question myself. I was happy with the laptop and hdmi setup and now it feels antiquated. A horse gets you from point A to B and doesn't use gas so why buy a car? It's better. The chromecast turns your phone into a remote. In addition, it allows you to move about freely - kitchen, bathroom, laundry - without interrupting your viewing experience or control because the controller is in your pocket. If your trip out of the room takes longer than u expect, just pause the show. If you can't come back right away but can keep watching, stop 'casting' and watch on your phone, and then recast it once ur back in the room. Cast to one tv, walk to another room and start casting on that tv. Cast the program on tv and play music through another wifi enabled device in your home all from your phone at the same time. (That would take a lot of cords) Load your YouTube queue on your phone while watching a video uninterrupted on your tv. Allow anyone connected to your wifi to each search for the next thing to watch and cast it without passing around the hot, noisy, and clumsy laptop. Play chromecast games with a group of friends like trivia or poker where everyone's phone is their own controller and the tv serves as the game board. I setup a tv that has nothing else attached to it -no cable, no antenna- and use it to play shows for the kids. By having the chromecast controller in my pocket, the kids can't change the show or watch anything inappropriate even after I leave the room. Why did you get a laptop when a desktop computer does the same thing? Because it's a step forward, an improvement on form and function. The chromecast certainly isn't perfect and I have other media streaming devices but for the $$ you simply can't even come close. Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it's the same but has no chords. For me, I'd rather have this over an HDMI chord.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's a personal preference about convenience. For me: 1. My laptop doesn't need to be on 2. We use android phones at home, and it's easy to control (or fight over) what we cast from youtube/netflix/other apps. 3. Once the video is cast, we can continue using the phones normally. Chromecast connects to the wifi network by itself and doesn't tether from phone. 4. Any phone/device connected to the network can stop the current cast All said and done, I also have a laptop, plugged in via HDMI cable and connected to wireless keyboard and mouse. That's easy too and TV is like a bigger monitor
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The main difference is ease of use. Laptop requires set up of wires, etc. where the Chrome cast allows the phone to beam directly from the phone to tv without wires, set up.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your guest will have the ability to cast from their phone, computer, or tablet with the cast. Unlike with just your HDMI chord, you can only connect something with an HDMI input.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, but you can sometimes get discounts for T.V provider subscriptions. But on this you can use your Google account.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The major benefit is being cordless!! But if you don't mind always using your phone and its mirroring capabilities and you're strapped for cash, then keep on doing whatcha doing. I think it provides better quality than mirroring, in my opinion.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. With the chromecast you don't need to plug and unplug your laptop using an HDMI cable when you want to mirror it to the TV and then use it as a computer, the little chromecast stays connected and is very discreet and then you can just use your phone or tablet whatever and it's through Bluetooth so NO wires, no connecting and you can change easily since the device is at your hands
