It will not add any channels as such but it if can get things like ESPNU or MLB.com it will allow you to watch them on your TV instead of you phone or tablet. Everything on Chromecast comes off your phone or tablet.

If you can display the video in your Chrome browser on your PC (Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go and other web sites listed on the Chromecast web page), you should be able to let Chromecast send the same audio/video to your TV. More expensive devices such as Roku or Amazon Fire TV are able to connect directly to applications.
