MP4's are no problem. I've not found an app that will play mkv files yet. You will need a few extra apps to do this. Allcast localcast these two apps will let you view your local content via the chromecast. the setup is fairly easy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.use videostream app/ext for chrome ...from the chrome store use it in your browser-chrome. works fine.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can, but it's not 100% straightforward. Google search on "how to setup plex for chromecast" and look for the link for the website allaboutchromecast. You will find a guide there on what is needed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can. My method is used with an android device and (sometimes) a PC. BubbleUPNP (... found in the google play market) allows for local media to be cast from an android device. MP4s will play without transcoding, but .mkv will need to be transcoded via the BubbleUPNP service that can be set up on your computer. There's a on time cost of something like 4.99 to get the 'full version' license for BubbleUPNP, but it's so worth it. A free option for streaming MP4 only is Localcast. It also has a pro version, but the free version works fine with only a few non-intrusive ads here and there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Using the updated Plex app for Android you are able to if you have the content you want to stream added to your computer's Plex library.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, because it is dependent on whether the device you are using to cast it to the Chomecast is capable of playing in those formats.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have found a way to but until Chromecast incorporates a hot fix, this is how I have been doing it. Open Chrome, stream to your chromecast, then drag and drop the file into Chrome or open the file in chrome. The 2nd way would be to cast the entire desktop from Chrome. There is an option to cast entire desktop from the cast icon in Chrome. After you cast your desktop, just open the file in whatever player you have that will play the file. NOTE: Playback will not always be smooth since it is tranferring more information.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not without a little trick. One way that I have been able to do this is by using apps like "All Cast" and/or "Cast to UPnP/DLNA" (look for them in the PlayStore). Still you might need to buy the Pro versions (still cheap) but these things work
