Yes. I use it for that purpose. I have a nas and it streams movies perfectly to it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, if you are streaming from the device (iPad, iPhone, tablet, PC, etc) and from a supported app. If you can stream it in the chrome browser from the network it will also be able to send it to chromecast. The chromecast device must connect to some intermediary device (listed above) and have a qualifying app or browser to send the content to. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you have to have google chrome on your computer, and have to download the stream attachment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Chromecast device itself does not connect to the files on your local or network drives. You use an application to play media files that are located on your drives e.g. Windows media player, winamp, etc... on a Windows computer. Since those apps don't have native support for chromecast, you can't play media through them and have it go directly to the chromecast device. You have to do that via screen mirroring. Take a look at the tutorials here, they should help you out: http://allaboutchromecast.com/chromecast-how-to-guide/how-to-use-chromecast-to-share-desktop-screen-and-audio-to-tv Hope that helps
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and No, Not really a answer huh ? Well, this is what I mean: you can using the Chrome Browser to play and cast it. But it is a cumbersome, technical (using URL's) process. Can not just cast from, Microsoft Media Player, for instance. This also denigrates the videos quality and synchronization.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. If you can connect to the hard drive from your phone then you can cast it to your Chrome cast using the AllCast app.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do this at my home. The easiest way I have found is to install a program called Plex Media Server (https://plex.tv/downloads). This will scan the folders you tell it to and find cover art and show them in a Netflix style. It works really well. You then have to purchase the Plex app on a device or use the free interface on the browser. Chromecast is built in. An added benefit is you can add "channels" to your Plex server like ABC, CBS, HGTV, etc, and it the program will pull content from their websites and organize it in the same fashion. It isn't live programming but it works kind of like a DVR. I subscribe to Hulu+ which doesn't have CBS programming and that is how I keep up with The Big Bang Theory. I attached some screenshots of the channels feature and how my home movies show up. Hope this helps!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not directly, but you can open movies in the chrome browser on your computer then stream them to chromcast. It works very well but requires a computer and the chromecast to both be on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Short Answer, Yes. Long Answer, google search for "How to setup Plex Media Server for ChromeCast" and you will find the article on how to set it up. It will require a dedicated PC running to serve the video files to Chromecast. Chromecast cannot directly browse to your files.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. It's just an extension, an output for phone apps like Netflix, pandora, HBO & many others to be transmitted to TV
