If you create a mobile hotspot then I guess in theory it might work. I'd google using chromecast on mobile hotspot. Otherwise I would say no. This product needs a wifi or wired network (chromecast ultra only) in order to stream. Here is how it works: It connects to your iPhone and the iPhone tells it what to stream and then the Chromecast uses its own connection to the internet to stream the medium. The iPhone then acts as a remote to control the stream. Therefore, it needs to be setup on a network to work. So you could go in and turn on your hotspot and it will connect to it and will then stream from that. I've never done it. Also, if you have unlimited data plan, most of those have mobile hotspot disabled to prevent this very strategy; the strategy of foregoing local broadband connection at home and reliance on cell network. Accordingly, if that is the case then the answer is an unequivocal NO THIS WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT MOBILE HOTSPOT. Also, naturally I have an Android and I am certain that the functionality of this android device is limited on iPhone so I wouldn't think this is the best option for you. When it says it work with iPhone, that means that certain functions work with it but not all. That is reserved simply for android devices.
