In the end...it's as simple as; One can not get up to 5-8x the performance out of the same power-draw/source... The majority of non direct netpowered USB output/power sources do not provide sufficient power. (Even on appliances that ARE connected to netpower sockets, like a TV or PC) Nearly 99.9% of all current TV's and appliances that can be connected to TV do NOT provide enough power to a Chromecast 2nd Gen....especially the Chromecast Ultra. It is like attempting to power a cruise ship electric pod-motor with the battery of a electric bycicle or its charger....it might spark, but it won't budge or move performance too weak thus non-functional. A USB PowerBank with an output of 2.4A(mps) PER PORT will likely be sufficient yet not very convenient for obvious reasons. (Might be nice for testing purposes...keep in mind likely is that it will not provide enough power...or only for a short time) In other words...if the USB connector used to power the chromecast is not specifically designed to power or charge a device that uses/draws tons of power like high-end smartphones do...then don't bother trying it to work. For battery powered devices it does work to use a weager pOwer sour celebrity then required...but only because it slows down the discharge of the and power draw from the battery...if the usage (output) exceeds the input (USB port supplying power) it might slow down drainage of a device with battery....tho they do not power a device using the same amount of power without battery. (In such a scenario the battery is acting as a buffer providing the required amount of power) [HERE IS WHAT TO LOOK FOR;] Every adapter has a mandatory label/sticker stating Input and Output, voltage(V) and - watts(W) or amps(A) Check what it states on both. If the used power source used for the chrome cast has a lower W or A value it will not work (properly) and provide a complaint/error-message. You can make sure the output of the power source is the same or higher then that stated on the supplied power-brick/adapter that came with the package. (((Voltage should always be 5V or 5 Volts, default (micro) USB voltage))) A small amount of TV's and appliances provide enough power to power a chromecast 2nd Gen or Chromecast Ultra...but even the mere few that dó provide sufficient amount of power....those appliances other have several USB connectors sharing 1 internal power source. ... So one must attempt to find the USB port that provides enough power AND unplug ALL other devices from the additional USB ports first. (Even in an off or standby state appliances can draw power, thus potentially reducing required power to other devices) Make sure to unplug the display/TV and Chromecast before EACH change made to make sure it will succeed. Note; (KEEP IN MIND, WHENEVER TURNING OFF APPIANCES WAIT AT LEAST 1 MINUTE BEFORE TURNING THEM BACK ON SOME HAVE A "MEMORY EFFECT" MAKING THEM REMEMBER THE LAST STATE FOR UP TO 3 MINUTES, THUS WAITING FOR 3 MINUTES OR MORE BETWEEN ÉACH CHANGE IN UNPLUGGED STATE ENSURES MEMORY OF RECENT USAGE AND ACTION BEING WIPED THUS UNPLUGGING AND TURNING BACK ON BEING EFFECTIVE) For the geeks; Yes, the above does not count for majority of appliances but once one is troubleshooting one should always keep in mind to take every precaution to make sure nothing is missed out on. Half measures only work for half-measured intended work or tasks....doing it right is checking it properly and twice.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm am using power though another USB just fine. I have a spare micro USB cable so I connected this Chromecast Ultra into an available HDMI port and the micro USB to another USB source on the same device and it works just fine for me. You might have to check if the USB source you used had enough output voltage or not. I believe it needs at least 5 volts to work, and I also know not all USB source output adequate voltage.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you look on the power source, there is also a Ethernet cable input that goes directly to the Chromecast Ultra.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have a USB port available, you can power it through that port with the USB to MicroUSB cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The info from ChromeCast is that the Ultra model needs more current than standard USB to handle 4K. I have a power strip with the TV and adapter plugged in.
