• The problem maybe yhat your security on your wifi does not allow your device and chromecast to see each other. I think they have help documents on what you might need to change. I am not sure what exactly you mean by not working.

• No, the router shouldn't be the issue. After logging into the device you should be able to set it up. I would recommend an Apple TV (seamless)
