“I have Chromecast version 1 and my S7 screen has to stay open in order to stream. Does the new version allow me to open other apps (ie email) and not affect the cast? Can the S7 screen close altogether and still cast? Thanks”

Yes definitely, i use it to watch Netflix Hulu or Cw app while I am writing this review

I have a Samsung S7 edge, I believe that's what you're referring to; when casting to the ultra I am able to go to other apps and shut off the screen altogether without disrupting casting.

If you choose the screen mirroring option, then no you can't change and keep playing. Most apps and video players will have a little icon at the top that you can select that will cast the video to the chrome cast and allow you freedom on your device.

I routinely do this while on the treadmill with the S7 edge and chromecast and ultra. I think the latest version of android may have more to do with it.
