• Not necessarily. This allows you to "stream" the content on your laptop or phone to the TV without having it directly plugged in. It would offer you convenience, but not better picture quality.

• I would think your laptop is better but you'll have more space if you use a streaming device like this

• I had mine originally hooked up to a TV that was not a smart TV and it worked perfectly. I have hooked up all four of my TVs to a Chromecast now and dumped cable they work so well.
