I’ve done a lot of in home wiring. Couldn’t I just cut the power cord, take out several feet and wire the plug back to the power cord?

Probably. But why? The cord should be plenty long enough and why increase your risk of wire failure and house fire? The plug is slightly large so the hole I had to drill in the side of my house was larger than I would have liked but nothing a bit of caulk couldnt fix.
