DoubleA, that will largely depend on if you pay for their recording services or not. You get 30 days of Nest Aware for free, and while you have that or any other subscription, it actually records 24 hours a day, but how long that video is kept is dependent on which package you're paying for. You also have some liberties in setting up what you want to be alerted for as the Nest can determine the difference between a person and a pet, and can alert you only if it sees a person nearby, or if it detects any motion at all. If anyone rings it, it will automatically notify you and provide a clip of that person walking up to the door.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The button “DOES NOT” have to be pushed to start the video recording... After you connect it, you can set the type of recordings you want to receive (motion; person, or sound)...You can choose 1, 2, or all 3 settings...I selected all 3. Be sure that your door bell chime inside your home is a “HARD WIRE” type chime...If your chime is a dual connect (hard wire “OR” battery operated) chime, it will confuse the NEST VIDEO DOORBELL. The clarity is fantastic!...We’re very pleased!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It records 24/7. It does require a subscription but well worth it. When it detects motion, it sends a notification to your phone. You get a nice GIF if it detects a person.
