The battery version doesn't use a wall outlet it has a built in battery. The hardwired version will notify you about a power outage.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Absolutely not! The battery version does not use any power source other than the self-contained batteries. The wired detectors must be connected to a power source and also use self-contained batteries as backup in the event of power loss.

The AC version has battery backup but recieves its power from a hard wire, not an outlet. If your home isnt pre-wired, or you're not replacing a wired unit from another brand, then you want to use battery version. The single packs are EITHER battery or AC, you need to look at it closely before you buy. The multi-pack includes 3 battery powered ones and 3 AC cords for hard-wired houses, NOT wall outlet adapters. If you have a power failure, your wifi will also go down, the units will loose connectivity to each other and to the app. In the event of an alarm during a power failure, only the unit sensing the alarm condition will alarm, and you will not recieve remote alerts.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The battery powered Nest Protect does not connect to the power in the home and can be mounted anywhere you'd like because of this. Since it isn't connected to power, there wouldn't be any no power notification that would come up.
