If you get unlocked model it will definitely work in India. In my opinion all unlocked should be same . , mobile networks in India use the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands. Make sure all phone must match these MHZ frequency .

It should work on any carrier in California. They're the same ones sold by google unlocked, or locked to a carrier...

I have TMobile. Works fine.

In general, GSM will work with most phone companies except for Verizon. You will need to buy a Verizon Verizon then.

Would most likely work around the World, but you need to do your homework to verify the GSM frequency supported by carrier.
