“Will this unlocked phone work with Verizon prepaid plan”

I just finished texting with Verizon customer support and I'm now ready to buy this phone because of their response...they tell me that the phone WILL work on their 5g network IF I upgrade to a 5gb data plan. I told them I would prefer sticking to my 1gb plan (cheaper) and asked it this phone will work in a 4g capacity in 5g areas or will it just be non-functional. They said it WILL function, just in a 4g capacity...so why am I getting the 5g phone? Most of all I want the headphone jack and I like the option of going into 5g in the future...thx
