“What is the difference between an unlocked version of the phone and the verizon version? Is the verizon model locked with verizon? If i travel out of country with this phone will I be able to use it over there with a different sim?”

A verizon locked phone will be locked for a certain time. I forget the exact duration of time the phone is "locked" for before they have to unlock it per regulations. My guess is you probably will have a difficult time using a different sim in another country.
