I believe the built in firewall is more than good enough. I've had this for a couple of months and no problems

I'm not quite sure what you are asking in particular, but based on your question I believe the Google Wifi is plenty for your needs as an average user. It's a modern wireless access point with all the latest security features, and as with any modern router there is no need for a "separate firewall" (this is where your question confused me, but I believe I've answered sufficiently).
