Google wifi will work as a router, but there has to be some source of internet connection via Ethernet. so if the dorm already has internet wired to the room and there is an Ethernet jack, google wifi will detect the internet signal and allow you to continue the setup!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. So one of two scenarios here: ONE: what they meant is there IS Internet available, but not WiFi. In that case you can bring your own WiFi router and create your own WiFi network. Or TWO, there really is no internet provided, but you can purchase Internet service offered in the dorm, and that they're asking you to bring your own router because to keep the cost lower they don't provide the router like many residential Internet providers do. You might want to get some clarity on what they mean.Good luck to your boy in college!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes this will work for college students and great price. It is easy to set-up with the Google Android App from the play store for free. If your college student is using free wireless internet, then you do not need anything. In the dorm, you plug the Ethernet cable into the back and set password for wireless and you are ready to go.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is a router so it should meet the requirements of " bring a router"
