Because the throughput is so much better, you will likely see a speed improvement. However, Google WiFi can only be as good as your service provider. Also, because it has so much better coverage (range) you will likely sense that everything seems faster. so the answer is likely both faster (seemingly faster) up to about the speed of a direct LAN connection. The range and coverage will be way better - particularly if you go from a singal wifi router to the mesh of 3 (as I did).

Range is definitely increased for me, however this is at least partially due to the device's ability to create multiple points of access. As a result, I went from one router access point (and one booster which was not very helpful in extending my signal) in my home to three. It did increase speed for me, but my previous router was quite old.

Both. The further you are away from a standard router the less speed you have. This system gives you more range through out your home and in-return you have more speed.

It actually does both, increases the range and increases the overall downloading / uploading speed as well. We no longer have any dead spots in our 1000 SQ FT house. We also have wifi access across our entire acre of land as well

My experience is that it increases both. My guest bedroom and garage are at the far end of my house nearly 100 ft from my modem/router. I replaced my router with google Wi-Fi and put a second google Wi-Fi in my living room which is in the middle of the house 50’ nearer the guest room. Signal strength is WAY higher and speeds are consistent throughout the house. I’m extremely pleased.
