• One of the units is a router and needs to be hardwired to the modem. The rest are sort of extenders but in a better way.

• It is a mesh unit, so it can do either. Ideally if using as an extender it would be easiest to have two of these units, one hard wired, one elsewhere in your home toward the end of the first ones range.

• One hub is hard connection, the others as placed become part of the network via wireless mesh technology. Not just an extender.
