it's all wireless - so no, it does not need to be plugged into your modem. It will connect wirelessly to the Google "pod" that is closest to your modem and connected.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No the second hub can go anywhere in your home next to a plug. Just open up your google wi-fi app, go to settings and under setting go to network and general , then select add wi-fi point and follow the steps. That’s it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.that was our situation. If your Spectrum box is one unit, a modem and router combined, you need to have spectrum replace this with 2 units. a modem and a router. they will do this for free. or you can go there and do this. You need to keep the Spectrum modem. The Spectrum router will be replaced by one of the Google Mesh units. Then buy the 3 unit Google mesh router package. One mesh unit will replace the spectrum router and will be connected with ethernet cable to the spectrum modem. The other 2 mesh units can be located anywhere in your home. and they need electric power only. They are WIFI, They do not need ethernet connections.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We have 3 Google units. All need to be plugged in to power. But only one needs to be connected with an ethernet cable to your modem. I do not know if you existing router is compatible with the Google units. Probably not. So you may have to buy a set of 3. $250 for all 3.
