If you place one Google Wifi point downstairs, it'll just function as an extender and your Wi-Fi network may experience a double NAT because you will have two routers broadcasting two private but identical networks. We recommend connecting a Google Wifi point to your modem as the primary router via an Ethernet cable. You can then place another Google Wifi point downstairs wirelessly to create a mesh network that will provide a strong and reliable Wi-Fi coverage. You can also connect your existing router to the primary Google Wifi point as a switch. You can check out the following links to learn more about double NAT and our recommended Wi-Fi setup for Google Wifi : Double NAT : https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/6277579?hl=ens Recommended Setups : https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/7215624?hl=en
