“Can this be used in an auto as a dash cam? I'm wanting video for crash evidence etc and this would work out to do the things I want to do with people sideswiping etc while on cell phones.”

It could be used for that, but for a dash cam, you'll probably want a camera that offers a looping feature so that the video that's recorded overwrites itself at regular intervals so your memory doesn't fill up too quickly. One of our new HERO cameras like the HERO8 Black or the HERO7 Black may be a better option.
