This is our 2nd set of e bikes with pedal assist the pedal assist can be turned off but when you turn the bike on and put in one of the 5 gears it moves weather you pedal or not the bike is a great purchase but if you don’t want your child to use pedal assist this isn’t the bike for you and the power and speed is absolutely great this isn’t a beginner e-bike the speeds on the gear number is where the pedal assist goes even if you don’t pedal
