Hello Joe, Thank you for your interest in the Hisense 55H9G. No its pretty easy to setup, and no its not mandatory to setup with a android phone, it can be done without. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have not tried with any other phone, but I can say setup with Android is easy. But the inbuilt chromecast is always an issue for me. I use chromecast a lot,I had to buy the chrome cast device separately again.
