Yes the panel itself cannot display anything but 4K, so everything fed into it is upscaled so it can be viewed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is the top of the line 4k HDR TV the R is not on all 4k TVs just HD. The HDR is the best. No matter what you watch regular HD TV or Netflix the 4k is available. This TV comes with free built in channels along with games built in. We only saw a fluctuation on the picture when watching an old DVD but everything else weather blue ray or Basic HD TV was 4k HDR.
