Why does the physical edition cost over twice as much as the digital edition? Are they adding content? null

Just in case you haven’t found your answer already, let me help you out. The physical version is basically the same as the digital version in that both versions include all the DLC by default. The only added thing you’re paying for is just the game being in physical form but you do admittedly get an added bonus of a physical manual, map, and a discount for some merch on a site I can’t remember the name of. If that seems worth your time then I say go for it!

I know that with the physical edition that I bought it had all the DLC content, as well as a game manual and a Very Handy Map which was very nice.

Releasing a game physically has more associated costs - cartridges, order management, shipping, etc. This is even more true for smaller independent developers who have more of a niche game (low production run) and aren't connected with big publishers with established distribution channels.

Both versions get all the same content because all the dlc is free and included through automatic updates. The physical version likely costs more simply to offset production costs. If you prefer to save money, then you won't miss out on anything buying digital.

Physical products cost more to create, store and ship. The cost for the game digitally is $15 but then the cost of the case, box art, ESRB rating for the physical release, the cartridge and then to pack and ship everything out makes up for the other $15

There’s no physical product to create with digital it’s simply uploading data to a server. Purchasing game cases, cartridges, cover art printings, and extras like the instruction manual all cost money. So the cost goes into the production of the physical items.

The base game is 15, and a lot of indie switch games charge 10 more dollars for the cost of the cartridge, and another 10 because it includes all 4 dlc packs.

Multiple variables to this question, 
1- it costs more to create a physical cartridge to say making a dvd/disc game. That’s the reason why switch games are always about 10$ more than any other platform game. Due to cost of production 
2- the physical version of hollow knight DOES come with goodies and dlc.

Always try to keep in mind that Switch physical games will always be more than the digital versions and other platforms. Once you understand that part, you’ll never question the cost again. Hope it helped
