“I don't have a phone that does apps. Can I use my computer to get the app and set this up?”

The answers that say you can use this with a computer are wrong. This will not work with a computer, even though not 1 but 2 techs at Best Buy told me it would. But the app will not install on my computer. I did online chat with a Google agent and she told me this will ONLY work with Android, Iphone or Ipad. Since I don't have any of those I am very disappointed that I cannot use the minis at all.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, you don't need a smart phone. Go to google.com, and open the apps. Go down to more apps and down near the bottom of that. Find the Google Assistant. Add all the skills you wish. Amazing the depth of knowledge you can reach with this device. Its a winner.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In the google home mini set up it does say to download the app to a phone or tablet. Do you by any chance have a tablet? It will work on that. You cannot do it on a windows computer or apple because they don't have an app that will support it. It might be to your advantage if you got yourself a nice little android tablet of some kind. I really like my Samsung Tab
