It does not require a specific Google phone. 

It can work with iPhone and non-Google phones on an Android operating system, as long as the user downloads the Google Home app on that phone, and has an active Google account.

It does require Wi-Fi to work.

You must have a Google account synced up on your phone to be able to use Google Home, which you should be able to do just fine on an iPhone. Certainly any phone with an Android operating system will work with Google Home. At this time, Google Home's app integration is very minimal, regardless of what type of phone you have.

Works with any smartphone, but it will be better if you have an android phone, and best if you have a pixel. 

It does require wifi to work because the inquiry gets processes in the cloud, so it does not work if your internet is not working.

Google home can be used with any smart device phone. We have apple and google phones at home and both work with ease.
You do need to have wifi in the home in order for the google home to work.
