• This is a one time charge. No subscription necessary unless you plan on using services such as Netflix. But than a only subscription to Netflix is required

• Hi Deborah13, No, there is no monthly charge for this device. The only thing you'd be paying for monthly would be the music streaming service of your choice & your internet. Besides that, once you buy this device for $129.99 that is all you will pay for it unless you want to replace the bottom part of the speaker which you can get in up to 5 different colors.
