Same Google Assistant in a stand alone device with speaker. My phone (Pixel) defers to the Google Home unit when in same area. The voice recognition is also better. You can literally be playing music through the device, say "hey Google" and it lowers the music, listens to your question, answers, and turns the music back up -- from across the room. If you like it on your phone, you will love it on its own. Easier to use and very convenient.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No but it doesn't require your phone or computer which is a plus and you don't have to leave your computer on to control things like your thermostat or lights when your away from home.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am not sure about your computer, but I do know the only phone on today's market that will work like the Google assistant is the new Google Pixcel!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sorta... The Google Home has the Google Assistant which is a more comprehensive version of the 'Google Now' app that is on most smartphones, unless you have a Pixel phone (which has Google Assistant). Additionally you usually have to trigger your phone to respond (ie unlock the screen) before you can voice trigger this... With the Google Home it listens always for the trigger words and can be remotely triggered from anywhere in the house without an additional step. Additionally the Google Home links to other smarthings and can control devices in the home. For example in my home I have LIFX lights and a Chromecast, the Google Home can turn on and off my lights, change the color and brightness or send YouTube videos to my TV all by talking to it...
