It defaults to Pandora. I do not pay for Pandora, so you just have to listen to ads every few songs. You can also direct it to use your Google music playlists.

When you set it up, you specify which music service is your default. We use Pandora. It has only chosen Pandora so far but it did pick out a Happy Birthday on its own. You do need a strong wifi signal. The set up is done with an free app you down load

You can set up your default account to play a song on Pandora, Google Music, YouTube, or Spotify. If you have music you own in Google Music, it can retrieve that as well.
