Can the device play music on spotify while you are not home? Im looking to leave this home for my dog to hear music while im at work. I dont know if you need to have your phone paired to play spotify null

You set up a Spotify account access through the Google Home app. A phone is not needed to be paired. It will work while you are out. The same goes for Netflix.

It can, we do the exact some thing and our dog seems a little happier and not so lonely when we get home.

Google home can definitely stream Spotify when you are in front of it. You might want to check out IFTTT (If This Then That), which is a series of plugins that might work for your application. IFTTT might be able to setup a remote command to play Spotify from a smartphone.

I believe it would. I am never at home when I'm not home but it does work on its own doesn't need a phone or anything.

No, you have to be on WiFi in order for it to play music if streaming from an app.
