“If I was to program this thermostat to 68 degrees at 5:30 am, does the system come on at 5:30 am or does it start up before that to get the house to 68 degrees by 5:30 am? I am looking for it to start at the programmed time, not start before.”

There are several different settings in the program menu. You can have it so it comes on at 530 on the dot or you can have it in learning mode where it learns how long it takes to warm or cool and it will have it at that temp by that time. So to answer your question yes it does both. You just change the setting in the menu to your preference
