• Time can be set two ways. Via unit itself with or without wifi option turned on. Or with wifi enabled via google app. App is a lot quicker to setup

• manually set during device setup. it has a built in capacitor that acts as a battery backup after that.

• Time is set automatically, by hooking up to your WiFi. It gets an accurate time off the internet. I think you can set it manually if you want through the menu, but I've never tried or had to.
