• My brushes spin when reclined but not touching the carpet. Once it is lowered to the carpet it makes a nasty screeching sound. It is like the brushes don't have enough power to spin on the carpet.

• Hey Joel, thank you for your question. The Brush Roll will not spin when upright. Lower your SmartWash with the pedal at the base and it will spin when turned on. If it is still not spinning, it is likely that the "dry only" function is engaged. Press the button on top to turn it back to wash mode. Thanks, Joseph - The Hoover Team

• Push the lever, located by the right rear wheel, to release and lean back the upper (vertical) part of the machine. The brushes will not turn unless it is leaning back.
