“It says that it releases the correct amount of soap and water, but how does it just rinse with water? I see that it dries when it is pulled back, but how do you get the soap out of the carpet??”

The suction when pulled back will pull the solution out of the carpet. The primary way that SmartWash dries is through powerful suction to remove the water and solution. If you would like to rinse your carpet to remove any remaining residue, all you have to do is remove the solution tank and clean like normal. There is also a dry only function that you can turn on the further dry without puting down more water. Thanks, Joseph - The Hoover Team
